Autumn is when the Costa del Sol feels most like itself. The heat eases off, the coast quietens down, and the calendar fills up with chestnut roasts in the sierra, jazz in Málaga and village fiestas right across the Guadalhorce valley. Here's what is on between now and the end of 2026, from the Guadalhorce Valley to the Costa del Sol.

Feria de la Aceituna

Alozaina marks the start of the olive harvest with tastings, craft stalls and verdiales bands winding through the whitewashed streets. It is one of the warmest small ferias in the province and an easy half hour from Coín.
Festival de la Luna Mora

Guaro turns off its street lighting and lines the old town with thousands of candles for a weekend of Andalusian music, poetry and food. Arrive before sunset to watch the lamps being lit, and check the official page in case a second weekend is added.

Casarabonela stages its own history in the streets, with costumed processions, a period market and craft demonstrations beneath the Sierra Prieta. Comfortable shoes help on the steeper lanes.

Almond country celebrates its harvest with free tastings, sweets made to old recipes and the verdiales style that takes its name from this village. Twenty minutes north of Cártama.
Feria y Romería de San Miguel

Feria y Fiestas del Rosario

The last big feria of the Costa del Sol season, and one of the most admired in Andalucía. Expect daily carriage parades, thirty two permanent peñas open to anyone who wanders in, and a full concert programme at the Palacio de la Paz.
Spanish Doma Vaquera Championship

Coín hosts the national championship in doma vaquera, the working horsemanship tradition of the Andalusian countryside. Four days of precision riding, and a real coup for a town of this size.

Fiesta de la Cerveza, Oktoberfest

Cheesemakers and small wineries from across Andalucía fill the white village above the coast, with guided tastings and folk performances. Worth timing so you catch the mirador at sunset.

Chestnuts roasting over open fires, new wine from the sierra and some of the best autumn colour anywhere in the province. Pairs well with a morning walk in the Sierra de las Nieves national park.

The mountain villages see in November with the tostón, a communal chestnut roast in the countryside with anís, sweets and long conversations. Tolox, Ojén and Marbella all hold their own versions on or around 1 November.

Coín's Christmas season: lights, markets, nativity scenes, choirs and children's activities running right through to Three Kings. A fair measure of how much life there is in the town outside the summer months.
San Martín Gastronomic Festival

A gastronomic weekend marking the traditional start of the matanza season, with stalls, tastings and live music. Very much a local occasion, and all the better for it.
Muestra de Villancicos

Local choirs and school groups perform Andalusian Christmas carols, driven along by zambombas, tambourines and a good deal of enthusiasm. Free, and thoroughly charming.
Día de la Constitución, observed

Constitution Day falls on Sunday 6 December in 2026, so Andalucía observes it on the Monday. Together with the Tuesday holiday it makes a four day break, and one of the busiest travel weekends of the Spanish year.

The Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and the second half of December's long weekend. Book restaurants ahead and expect Málaga's Christmas markets to be at their busiest.

Navidad, Christmas Day

Christmas Day is a public holiday, though in Spain the main family meal is Nochebuena on the evening of the 24th. Shops close early that afternoon, so do the big food shop on the 23rd.
Fiesta Mayor de Verdiales

The biggest day in the Verdiales calendar. Dozens of "Pandas" in flower and ribbon-covered hats compete across the three traditional styles of Almogía, Comares and Montes, in a tradition that predates flamenco. Free, joyful and unlike anything else in Spain.

Coín's New Year is locally famous. The whole town turns out in fancy dress in the Plaza del Pescao to eat the twelve grapes at midnight, and nobody is too old or too self conscious to join in.
